CLEVELAND, OH. March 23, 2010. Euclid Avenue Congregational United Church of Christ was totally destroyed by fire this morning. Rev. Felix Carrion, who will be our keynote speaker at the upcoming Joint Cooperative Worship this summer was pastor of Euclid before being called as national director of the United Church of Christ Still Speaking Ministry. Thanks be to God, no one was injured in this fire. Please pray for this vital ministry in downtown Cleveland.

The Walk is usually held on Sunday in the latter part of September or first of October beginning and ending at the Geauga County Fairgrounds. The CROP Walk in Geauga county is one of thousands across the USA and promotes hunger awareness throughout the world and here locally. 25% of the monies raised stays here in the county supporting local food pantries. OKLAHOMA CITY – An anti-hunger anthem by Oklahoma folk singer-songwriter K.C. Clifford has been selected as the theme song for CROP Hunger Walk 2010, a worldwide public awareness campaign led by Church World Service to help end hunger locally and globally. Clifford wrote Raise Your Voice to support the efforts of Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma and in March 2009 performed the song for a national television audience on a special segment of the NBC reality television show The Biggest Loser. The experience has led to a series of performances at food banks across the country. “Hunger is an issue that’s very close to my heart,” Clifford said. “I’ve dealt with hunger and weight-loss issues most of my life, and made a commitment to do what I can to help others who are struggling. Approximately two million people participated in CROP Hunger Walks in their communities last year, raising more than $16 million to help end hunger and poverty around the world and in their own communities. CROP Hunger Walks are currently being organized in Oklahoma communities for September and October, including: Bartlesville, Claremore, Edmond, Midwest City, Norman, Ponca City, Stillwater and Tulsa. Founded in 1946, Church World Service is a cooperative ministry of 36 Christian denominations and communions working together to eradicate hunger and poverty and promote peace and justice among the world’s most vulnerable people.
The purpose of the Geauga County Cooperative Ministry shall be to promote and facilitate activities, programs of fellowship, outreach, and spiritual growth among the Geauga county United Church of Christ and Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) as well as the larger church community. We seek to witness to the Gospel through a variety of ministries, using our combined efforts to achieve more than would be possible as individual congregations.
